Impostor Syndrome can be hard to understand and beat!

October 2, 2025

“I’m not cut out for this.”

If you’ve ever had that thought…you’re not alone.

Impostor Syndrome shows up when you’ve achieved something, and your brain still tells you you’re faking it.

You scroll and compare, convinced everyone else is ahead.
You question if you belong… even in places you’ve earned.

It can almost feel protective but in the end it takes us further away from our goals and what we are truly wanting for ourselves. Sound familiar?

Imposter Syndrome is often accompanied with the following stuck points/beliefs:

  • ‘I must know everything before I begin’
  • ‘It should come easily to me. If it takes effort then I am “not good enough”
  • ‘I’m only as good as my performance’
  • I am not cut out for this’

But here’s the truth:
🙋🏽‍♀️ Everyone experiences doubt.
🙅🏽‍♀️ Fear doesn’t mean you’re unqualified.
🧠 Impostor thoughts don’t reflect your actual ability.

Some strategies that can shift the pattern:

  • Start to identify negative self-talk and assumptions (e.g., “should statements”)
  • Reframe your thoughts from “I’m not good at this” to “I’m learning’
  • Create a balance with expectations that fit (i.e., validate that this is hard and scary, and play out your strengths
  • Normalize difficulties-it is a sign of growth and change
  • Prioritise your Wellness-remember wellness need to feel good
  • Celebrate out loud-identify and be proud of the “wins”-in a big way (even just with yourself).

At Crosstown Psychology, we help you untangle the perfectionism, pressure, and self-doubt that hold you back so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.
