You are not alone
How we feel about our bodies is one of the most powerful ways we can struggle in silence – You are not alone
If you’re struggling with concerns about your body, this time of year can be particularly challenging to navigate.
As seasons change and we inch our way into warmer months, it can bring on a fresh new set of worries, maybe a restlessness that only comes with this change of season.
We can already hear some of the whispers when it comes to getting “ready” for the summer and what that can bring.
There may be more expectations to be out and social, including the need to see friends and participate in ways that can feel challenging and stressful.
We need to be mindful that warmer weather does not equate to feelings of happiness and joy.
If you’re struggling with this upcoming season, you’re not alone. Here are some points of reflection:
- Struggles with body image are not based on how a person looks; it is tied to how they feel in their bodies, how they think about their bodies, and how they perceive others’ views of their bodies.
- Just like other mental health struggles, it is silent and invisible to most, as it can be difficult to give voice to. It feels like a personal struggle that can evoke feelings of shame, judgment and guilt.
- Summer months can bring on fresh expectations when it comes to fitting into a certain “size” or “body type.” We see posts on social media about different routes to being “fit” and “healthy” that do not translate to feelings of wellness.
- If “wellness” is associated with “should statements” and comes with feelings of stress and helplessness, it is not wellness to you.
If you are noticing these pressures, feeling upset, anxious, or frustrated—you are not alone.
If you are noticing that your compassion toward yourself is shifting to labelling and being hard on your body-you are not alone. Send us a message to start a conversation.
Sometimes, the hardest step is to recognize that you have the power to make changes and we can help you.
